At work, everyone must have encountered many motor burns. Some were due to mechanical problems, some were due to thermal relay problems, and some were burned due to lack of phase.
As the saying goes, if a worker wants to do his job well, he must first sharpen his tools, so how to avoid the motor being burned?

1Keep the motor clean

During the operation of the motor, there must be no dust, water stains and debris within 3 meters of the air inlet. Otherwise, once it is sucked into the motor, it will form a short-circuit medium or damage the wire insulation layer, causing a short circuit between the boxes and burning the motor. Therefore, to ensure the safe operation of the motor, the motor and its surrounding environment must be kept clean, so that the motor can maintain a safe and stable working state during long-term operation.

2 Ensure that the motor often works under the rated current

Motor overload operation is mainly caused by the dragging load is too large, the voltage is low, or the driven machinery is stuck. If the overload time is too long, the motor will absorb a large amount of active power from the grid, the current will increase rapidly, and the temperature will rise accordingly, which will easily burn the motor. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure that the motor often works under the rated current, and also pay attention to checking the operation of the transmission device, the concentricity of the coupling and the gear transmission.

3 Pay attention to check the temperature of the motor

Workers should always check the temperature of the motor’s bearings, stator, housing and other parts, especially for motors without voltage, current and frequency monitoring and without overload protection. They should pay more attention to monitoring the temperature rise. If the temperature rise is too high, they should immediately Shutdown inspection. In addition, the rolling elements of the bearing, raceway surface, bearing clearance, etc. all need to be checked regularly. If there is any abnormality, the bearing must be updated before operation.

4 Observe whether the motor has vibration, noise and abnormal smell

If the motor vibrates, the part of the load connected to it will increase to varying degrees, increasing the motor load, and overloading will burn the motor. Noise and peculiar smell are the precursors of motor failure and must be paid attention to at any time. Therefore, during the operation of the motor, especially the high-power maintenance network motor, it is necessary to check frequently to see if the motor end cover, anchor bolts, bearing glands, etc. are loosened, etc., once the problem is found, it should be solved in time.

5 Ensure that the boot device is working properly

Generally speaking, the quality of the starting equipment determines whether the motor can start normally. According to past experience, most burnt motors are caused by abnormal operation of the starting equipment, such as lack of phase starting of the starting equipment, arcing of the contactor contacts, and ignition. So how to maintain the startup equipment? Mainly cleaning and tightening. For example, if the contacts of the contactor are not clean, the contact resistance will increase, causing the maintenance network to heat up and burn the contacts, and then burn the motor. Therefore, always pay attention to the cleaning and tightening of the starting equipment. The electrical control cabinet should be located in a dry, ventilated and easy-to-operate location, and dust should be removed regularly.
